Altero is a wine label created by Mike Farmillo, who previously worked as the Chief Red Winemaker for Penfolds. The grapes for the brand are grown in the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula at Currency Creek, in vineyards owned by Vicky and Pat Vasarelli.
The production focuses on Spanish and Italian grape varieties that grow well in warm climates. Their lineup features Tempranillo, Nero d’Avola, and Montepulciano, including a 100% varietal 2022 Montepulciano that is bottled with a screwcap.
