Baarmutha Wines is a small vineyard 6.5 km from the centre of Beechworth, the result of a long-held vision that began more than two decades ago with the purchase of 45 acres of gently undulating land.
The varieties suit Beechworth's strengths: Riesling, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Shiraz, along with Sagrantino, which thrives in the region's warm days and cool nights. In good seasons friends and family hand-pick the fruit in the cool of the morning, and the winemaking is measured.
Winemaker Vinny Webb hosts tastings by appointment at the cellar door, a historic goldfields building.
