Barwon Ridge Wines

Barwon Ridge is a 4-hectare vineyard in the Barrabool Hills near Geelong, established in 1999 by Geoff and Joan. Since Joan's death in 2021, Geoff has continued their vision of a sustainable property producing fine wine. In 2023 Barwon Ridge became the first vineyard in Geelong certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.

The Barrabool Hills have deep wine history: the first vineyard was planted in 1841 at Pollocksford by Swiss settlers Fredrick Brequet and David Pettavel, and by the 1860s many larger vineyards dotted the hills. Ruins, old cellars and a Swiss cross carved into a log at the old Barramonga vineyard still remain.

Barwon Ridge makes Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Marsanne, sparkling, rosé and fortified wines. It won a Gourmet Traveller Wine Best Cellar Door award in 2022, and the cellar door opens one weekend a month.
