Basedow Wines

Basedow is one of the founding wine families of the Barossa Valley, with a lineage of more than 120 years in winemaking. The family arrived in 1848. Martin Basedow was a teacher who founded the German newspaper Australische Zeitung in Tanunda, then became a prominent educator and politician who introduced the legislation that established Roseworthy Agricultural College. His brother Johannes, a carpenter who built the historic Chateau Tanunda and Bethany Church, built the family winery at Tanunda and planted its first vineyard in 1896.

After a long period when the brand was out of family hands, fifth-generation brothers Peter, Michael and Richard Basedow bought the Basedow brand in 2014 and became custodians of their family name again.

They continue the family craft, making premium Barossa wines in a new chapter of the Basedow story.
