Bella Ridge Estate

Bella Ridge is a small family producer at Herne Hill in the Swan Valley, established in 2003 by Alon and Jodi Arbel. Alon came to Australia in his mid-20s and became a wine collector; in 2000, while a disenchanted final-year engineering student, Jodi enrolled him in winemaking.

They were drawn to the property by its very old vines, planted in the 1960s, its gravelly loam and its position at the foot of the Darling Range. The original Chenin Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz have been grafted over the years to include Japanese Kyoho grapes, Viognier, Savagnin, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Mourvèdre.

The family hand-picks, crushes, bottles and labels everything in its own winery, with a mostly hands-off winemaking style using wild ferments. Bella Ridge does not have a cellar door.
