Break Free Wines was started in 2021 by Trudy, who left more than 30 years in the corporate world to make wines that break the rules, with her husband Nick, who has spent his career selling wine around the world. Between them they bring over three decades of buying, selling and making wine.
The wines are lo-fi and minimal intervention: wild-yeast ferments, no fining or filtration, little or no added sulphur, and vegan. Fruit comes from growers who farm to organic or biodynamic principles, and the wines are made in the Swan Valley in Western Australia and in McLaren Vale. The range includes Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, rosé, a Cabernet Franc nouveau and Frankland River Syrah.
