Byron & Harold is a Western Australian wine business founded by Paul Byron and Harold (Ralph) Dunning, who after 60 years in the fine wine business between them put their names on the label as a solemn pledge to wine lovers: affordable wines of provenance, sustainably made. They focus on Margaret River and the Great Southern, among the few Australian regions with a genuinely cool climate thanks to their southerly latitude and the strong influence of the surrounding oceans.
Like the great châteaux, they believe great winemaking begins in the vineyard, and seek out the best parcels of fruit, working in partnership with growers to reflect the aspect, variety and place of each site. Respecting the guidelines that have shaped quality wine for millennia, they aim to build on them with their own protocols for the future of Margaret River.
The approach has earned the winery five black stars from James Halliday, and its The Protocol Cabernet Sauvignon won gold at the 2026 IWSC Margaret River judging.
