Chalkers Crossing

Chalkers Crossing is a winery just north of Young in the Hilltops region of southern New South Wales, where grapes were first planted during the gold rush of the late 1800s. Its state-of-the-art winery was commissioned in March 2000, just in time for vintage.

The Rockleigh Vineyard, 5 kilometres south of Young, was a neglected plum orchard converted in late 1997 to a 10-hectare vineyard of Riesling, Semillon, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The later Kylmorn Vineyard, 7 kilometres south of Young, is a 17-hectare sustainably managed vineyard planted in 2002 with Riesling, Chardonnay and Shiraz.

Winemaker Celine Rousseau was born in France and trained in Bordeaux, working in Bordeaux, Champagne, St Emilion, the Languedoc, Margaret River and the Perth Hills before arriving for the first Chalkers Crossing vintage in 2000. She became an Australian citizen in 2002.
