Chateau Mildura

Chateau Mildura is a historic winery at Irymple near Mildura, at the birth of the Murray irrigation industry. In 1887 the Canadian brothers George and W.B. Chaffey established irrigation colonies at Mildura and Renmark, and on their own Belar Avenue property planted 150 acres of wine grapes and founded Chateau Mildura.

In 1910 it became part of Mildura Wines, which grew into Beringer Blass. Brandy was made there until the 1950s, a large vat shed was built in 1946 and 17 distinctive gabled concrete sherry vats in the 1960s. In 2002 it was bought by fourth-generation local horticulturist Lance Milne, whose forebears were among the first settlers at Merbein in 1913.

Lance re-established table wine production: in 2005 Psyche Wines made the first table wine vintage there in 100 years, and the cellar door opened that November.
