Chateau Yaldara

Chateau Yaldara was founded in 1947 by Hermann Thumm near Lyndoch in the southern Barossa Valley, and its wines still aim to push boundaries as he did. The estate's history goes back much further: a water-driven flour mill was built beside Lyndoch Creek in 1854, the site briefly became a flax works in the 1880s, and from 1891 the Adelaide Wine Company made wine there until 1916, after which the buildings fell into disrepair.

Thumm, who arrived in Australia in 1941, rebuilt the site and created the château, which became one of the Barossa's best-known landmarks. Chateau Yaldara produces a range of award-winning Barossa wines and is the home of its sister label, 1847 Wines.

Visitors can taste at the cellar door, explore the gardens, and take a self-guided tour that tells the story of the estate and of Barossa winemaking.
