Coliban Valley Wines is a small vineyard at Metcalfe, south of Redesdale, in the Heathcote wine region. Greg and Helen Miles, aiming to make full-flavoured reds, established the 4-hectare vineyard in 1997, planted mainly to Shiraz, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Even in its early years the vineyard produced trophy-winning wines, and in 2007 the winery earned a five-star rating from James Halliday. All wines are estate-grown from low-yielding, unirrigated vines, and made and bottled on site.
With just 450 cases a year, the fruit-driven wines are sold mainly by mail order and through the simple cellar door among the barrels.
