Owner and vigneron Lloyd Matthews established Cross Rivulet Winery in the Coal River Valley, where he initially planted a 0.5-hectare block of vines in 1980 and expanded it with an extra 0.7 hectares in 1990. Operating a total of 1.2 hectares, this site ranks among the smallest and earliest vineyard setups in the region, with its very first harvest occurring around 1986.
The vineyard produces handpicked fruit across several grape varieties, namely Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir.
