Cullen Wines

Cullen Wines was founded in 1971 by Dr Kevin and Diana Cullen and is a family-owned biodynamic winery in the heart of Margaret River. For more than fifty years it has been guided by one principle: do it properly or don't do it at all, with deep respect for the land and a commitment to wines of integrity that capture the purest expression of place.

The vines are dry farmed on ancient Wilyabrup soils, hand pruned and hand harvested, giving low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. Winemaking is minimal intervention, with indigenous yeasts, no additions and unfined, unfiltered wines. Under winemaker Vanya Cullen, the estate became certified organic and biodynamic, with practices refined since 2003, and Cullen was the first Australian winery to achieve carbon neutral certification. The vineyard runs on renewable energy, biodynamic compost is spread each year, and the team follows the Wadandi Six Seasons calendar to guide its work on Country.

Vanya is widely regarded as one of the country's great winemakers, praised for bringing spirituality, a feeling of place and creative imagination to her wines, and Cullen has received honours including the ACO Chairman's Award in 2019. Visitors can explore the estate through biodynamic wine room experiences.
