Curlewis Winery

Curlewis Winery is a small Pinot Noir specialist at Curlewis on the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong, originally called Hermsley Vineyard after an earlier owner. Its MV6 Pinot Noir vines are among the oldest on the Bellarine and the backbone of the wines.

Rainer Breit and his partner Wendy Oliver, lovers of Burgundy, released the first Curlewis Pinot Noir in 1998, aiming for a French-style Pinot that a Grand Cru drinker would enjoy at a more affordable price. They also planted a block of Pommard clone for tannin structure in the Reserve. In May 2011 Stefano Marasco and Leesa bought the winery, and Rainer and Stefano remain the winemakers together, still using a French basket press handed down from winemaker to winemaker.

Visitors can taste at the cellar door or join classes in Italian cooking and salami-making, using Stefano's grandparents' recipes.
