De Salis Wines

De Salis is a family winery on the northern slopes of Gaanha Bula-Mount Canobolas at Orange, New South Wales, at 1,050 metres. It began in 1999 as a 'garagiste' winery on Sydney's Northern Beaches, where research scientist Charlie Svenson and friends, known as 'The Francateers', made award-winning Cabernet Franc. It is named after Charlie's great-great-grandfather, Leopold Fabius Count Fane De Salis, who settled in the Cotter district near present-day Canberra.

Led today by head winemaker Mitch Svenson, the family is celebrated for dry-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its Lofty Vineyard and Forest Edge Vineyard, planted in 1988 by the Robertson family. The hand-tended vines grow in basalt over limestone, and in 2022 the family close-planted 6,500 more Chardonnay and their first Riesling vines.

Gourmet Traveller Wine named De Salis among the 'Top 50 wine experiences in the world' in 2019, and the winery ranked 32nd in the Real Review Top 100 Australian Wineries for 2025.
