DOWIE DOOLE

DOWIE DOOLE is a McLaren Vale winery built on two terroirs and time. It was formed in 1995 when founders Drew Dowie and Norm Doole, recognising the potential of their estate vineyards, joined forces to look after them using biodynamic techniques, so that the land would stay healthy for future generations and the fruit would express both its place and the environment it grows in.

The two estates sit in two of the region's most prized areas: the sandy slopes of Blewitt Springs and the ancient rocks of Tatachilla, where some of the geology is around 650 million years old, among the oldest anywhere vines are grown. In 2015 chief winemaker Chris Thomas and a group of like-minded wine lovers bought the business, with Norm Doole staying on as shareholder and chairman. Aiming to be 100 percent estate grown, they have since added 35 hectares at Tatachilla, including 10 hectares of Grenache planted in 1965, and in 2018 a further 29 hectares at Blewitt Springs.

Visitors taste at the DOWIE DOOLE Tasting Pod, set in the Doole Vineyard and opened by the Governor of South Australia in 2019, choosing from guided flights that compare the two terroirs, with regional platters available.
