Driftwood Estate

Driftwood Estate is a family-owned, independent winery in the heart of Margaret River. Its story began in 1980, when Tom and Helen Galopoulos bought the property as a home away from home where their boys could explore the bush and beaches. There wasn't a vine on it, but Tom's family had made wine for generations: his grandfather grew vines in northern Greece, and Tom remembered picking grapes as a child.

The vines went in in 1989. The name came from a family walk soon after, when a young Peter Galopoulos picked up a piece of driftwood on Quininup Beach. Helen has been part of the business from the start. Winemaker Kane Grove, who grew up in Margaret River and started with a weekend job at Leeuwin Estate, has led the winemaking since 2017, earning gold medals and strong reviews.

The cellar door sits among the vineyard and gardens, with a relaxed, no-egos welcome, and dogs are always welcome. The estate also hosts dining and events.
