Eastern Peake

Eastern Peake is a small domaine at Coghills Creek in the Ballarat Highlands, about 25 kilometres from Ballarat. It was established in 1983 by Dianne Pym and Norman Latta, inspired by the late winemaker Trevor Mast, and is named after the granite outcrop of Mount Bolton to the west. Vines first grew at Coghills Creek in the 1800s, when farmer John Hawkins planted 11 acres.

The first plantings were eight acres of Pinot Noir, followed by four acres of Chardonnay in 1991, and a winery and cellar door were built in the mid-1990s. Second-generation winemaker Owen Latta has led the estate for two decades. The organically farmed vineyards grow on volcanic basalt loam in a genuinely cold climate.

Eastern Peake sells mainly to restaurants and specialist retailers around Australia. The tasting room offers guided tastings of the Eastern Peake and Latta ranges.
