Farmer's Leap Wines

Farmer's Leap is the wine business of the Longbottom family, who have farmed at Padthaway in South Australia since 1938, long relying on onions, sheep and cattle. The first vines were planted in 1993, and more than 400 hectares are now devoted to grapes across six varieties.

Grower Scott Longbottom, whose family has farmed Padthaway for four generations, takes a hands-on approach to every aspect of viticulture on the region's distinctive limestone soils. Winemaker Renae joined in 2011 after studying oenology at the University of Adelaide. The vineyard is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and uses under-vine composting with clover and grass pasture between the rows.

The cellar door is open daily for tastings, meals and light fare, and hosts weddings and events. It makes a good stop on the way to Coonawarra.
