Humis Vineyard is a family vineyard and winery in the Heathcote region, founded by Michelle and Hugh, who come from rural New South Wales and Victoria and worked in agriculture, finance, IT, mining and construction. They decided to start a vineyard in 2008, and after two years of searching Hugh spotted a paddock on the Heathcote-Rochester Road near Lake Cooper.
From April 2010 they installed irrigation and trellis, planted some 23,000 vines and built a house and sheds, while still working and raising twins. They have since planted more than 2,500 indigenous trees and shrubs and about 50,000 vines in total, mostly in east-west rows for a cooler canopy, and now make all their wines on site.
Humis is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia in both vineyard and winery, with all wines certified from the 2024 vintage. There is no cellar door, but visits can be arranged.
