Idée Fixe is a dedicated Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine house from Vasse Felix in Margaret River. Sparkling wine has been a quiet obsession at Vasse Felix for decades, beginning when winemaker David Gregg set out to make a top Margaret River sparkling; the Holmes à Court family acquired Vasse Felix from him in 1987.
The turning point came at the estate's southern vineyard in Karridale, first planted in 1995, where a block thought to be Gingin Chardonnay turned out to be mixed with Champagne clones, growing on rare quartz-based soils. The first experimental vintage was made in 2012, and the vineyard now grows only Chardonnay and a little Pinot Noir.
A purpose-built sparkling house followed, and the first Idée Fixe Premier Brut, from 2018 fruit, was released in 2020.
