James & Co. Wines was founded by Ricky and Georgie James to make limited quantities of approachable, enjoyable and affordable wines, especially Italian styles. The '& Co.' is their ever-growing crew of friends, family and industry colleagues who share a love of wine, an abundant table and lively conversation.
The couple had planned to buy land in Beechworth and plant Sangiovese, but serendipity led them to Mark Walpole and the chance to buy Sangiovese and Cabernet from his Fighting Gully Road Vineyard, at 530 to 580 metres.
Their cellar door on Main Street, Rutherglen, offers guided tastings, wine-and-cheese experiences and adventures with winemaker Ricky, plus a shady garden out the back where dogs are welcome and pizza nights are held.
