Jamsheed is the label of winemaker Gary Mills, who came to wine by an unusual route. Originally from Western Australia, he studied literature, then lived in Japan as a student and English teacher. Back in Australia, a stint as a Japanese-speaking tour guide in Queensland led to an epiphany, and he began working in the vineyards of Margaret River.
Gary started the Jamsheed label in 2003, focusing on single-vineyard Syrah and aromatic whites from distinctive sites across Victoria, and it has since grown to three labels.
In 2019 Gary and his partner Elika Rowell, a hospitality veteran, opened Jamsheed Urban Winery in Preston, Melbourne, where the wines are made and shown just as they are intended, without pretence.
