Juxtaposed is the McLaren Vale wine label of Wes, a Canadian from Winnipeg whose wine career began in 1992, when he spent a winter snowboarding in Whistler, British Columbia, and took a job at a steakhouse to keep his days free to ride, sparking a love of food and wine.
After thirteen years working in many of Whistler's top restaurants, he enrolled in the University of British Columbia's new wine biochemistry program, while working at Tantalus Vineyards with Australian winemaker and Riesling and Pinot Noir specialist Matt Holmes. After graduating in 2008 he became an intern oenologist at Château Léoville Las Cases, a Super Second growth in St Julien, Bordeaux.
Wes then moved to McLaren Vale, and since 2011 has worked at the Australian Wine Research Institute, where he is a senior sensory scientist, bringing that scientific understanding of taste and aroma to the wines he makes under the Juxtaposed label.
