Kelvedon Estate is a family property on Tasmania's East Coast, traditionally a fine-wool sheep and cattle farm with some cropping. In 1998 the family diversified into wine, planting a hectare of Pinot Noir clones that became the foundation of the Kelvedon Estate label.
The vineyard has grown to 9 hectares. Half the vintage goes under contract to Handpicked Wines for sparkling wine, and the rest is made under the Kelvedon label.
The family protects 1,200 hectares of the property under a private forest reserve, providing habitat for swift parrots and sea eagles, and has fenced the beach dunes to protect shorebirds.
