Lillydale Estate

Lillydale Estate, established in 1976, has some of the oldest and most iconic vines in the Yarra Valley. It was planted by scientists and winemakers Alex White and Martin Grinbergs to Riesling, Gewürztraminer, a trial block of Pinot Noir clones and three Chardonnay clones.

McWilliam's Wines bought it in 1985, and the 2005 Lillydale Estate Chardonnay won the Best Table Wine trophy at the 2006 National Wine Show. After phylloxera was found in the Yarra Valley in 2008 the vineyard fell into disrepair, the label was discontinued and the property was sold in late 2012.

Today the vineyard is planted entirely to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, harvested over about ten days in early March, and the wines are made by Nicole Esdaile and Franco D'Anna at the Hoddles Creek Estate winery.
