M. Chapoutier Australia

M. Chapoutier Australia is the Australian venture of the Rhône Valley house of M. Chapoutier, whose estate has worked its vineyards since 1808 under the family motto 'Fac et spera', do and hope. Michel Chapoutier, who as a 26-year-old converted the family's estate to new methods, is regarded as a pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture.

In 1997 Michel set out to explore Australia's terroirs, looking for people who shared his passion for expressing the true character of vines. In 2002 he joined forces with Ron and Elva Laughton of Jasper Hill at Heathcote, on unusual early Cambrian soil, and the house later bought vineyards at Shays Flat and Landsborough in the Victorian Pyrenees, creating the wholly owned Domaine Tournon.

The Australian wines, led by Shiraz, are made with elegance and mineral purity, including organic single-vineyard wines from Domaine Tournon. The cellar door is in High Street, Heathcote.
