Nova Vita Wines

Nova Vita Wines grows grapes in the Adelaide Hills, one of Australia's best cool-climate regions. Vines were first planted there in the 1890s, but the region expanded only from the late 1970s; at 370 to over 700 metres in elevation, it is on average more than 5°C cooler by day and 10°C cooler by night during the growing season than surrounding regions, giving long ripening and elegant wines.

The winery's Woodlands Ridge Vineyard lies more than 450 metres above sea level on gentle slopes. Nova Vita describes itself as being about sustainability as well as grape growing: it keeps chemicals to a minimum, encourages natural biological systems to control pests and diseases, and is trialling biodynamic practices on selected blocks.

It also restores native vegetation. In 2013, working with the South Australian Natural Resources Management Board, it returned more than 7 hectares, about 20% of the Woodlands Ridge Vineyard, to its original native state.
