Old Plains

Old Plains was started in 2002 by longtime friends and winemakers Tim Freeland and Dom Torzi, with a mission to preserve the old-vine vineyards of the Adelaide Plains. Many were planted by post-war migrants in the 1940s and 1950s, and these dry-grown, low-yielding vines had survived vine-pull schemes and urban sprawl but were at risk of disappearing.

The pair give these vineyards a voice through minimal-intervention winemaking: hand-picked fruit, open-top fermenters and basket pressing, making honest, small-batch wines such as an old-vine Grenache from 1950s plantings.

In 2005 they launched a second label, Longhop, to apply the same philosophy to a broader range of styles.
