Penley Estate

Penley Estate is a contemporary Coonawarra brand with the values of a traditional family business, born from the marriage of two pioneering South Australian wine families, the Penfolds and the Tolleys. It began in 1988 as the dream of three siblings and has become one of Coonawarra's premier producers and a modern custodian of one of the world's great Cabernet terroirs, the region's terra rossa soils.

The family history is colourful, from Gladys Lethbridge, great-granddaughter of Governor King, who married Frank Penfold Hyland in 1921, to the motto of Ang and Bec Tolley's glamorous mother Judith: 'Grow up and be fascinating.' Sisters Ang and Bec took full custody of Penley in 2015 and have transformed it into a vibrant, thriving company.

Winemaker Kate Goodman joined in 2016 after more than 20 years at wineries including Wirra Wirra, Knappstein, Seppelt Great Western and Punt Road, and was named 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year; under her guidance the wines are contemporary yet recognisably Penley. Sustainability is independently audited through Sustainable Winegrowing Australia across vineyard and winery.
