Picardy

Picardy is a family winery in Pemberton, Western Australia, founded by Bill and Sandra Pannell. The couple were Margaret River pioneers, establishing Moss Wood in 1969, which helped make that region one of Australia's best.

While involved with a Burgundy domaine in the 1980s, they learned of a long-running clonal trial of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and later sought a cool-climate site in Pemberton for those varieties. Their son Dan, an oenology graduate of the University of Adelaide who managed a Margaret River winery, joined the family estate, and he and Bill have made the wines together since Picardy's first vintage in 1996.

Picardy makes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Shiraz and a Merlot Cabernet blend. Bill's book on the history of Western Australian winemaking can be read online.
