Poppelvej is the label of Danish winemaker Uffe, based in Whites Valley, McLaren Vale. The name, pronounced 'pop-el-vai', is the street in Denmark where he grew up and means 'street of poplars'.
Uffe fell for the McLaren Vale foothills when he first saw them in 2012. He and his partner divided their time between Australia and Denmark before settling in McLaren Vale in 2016 to start Poppelvej.
The wines come from sustainable vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale, made with natural fermentation, no additives and little or no sulphur. Poppelvej is part of the Under The Sun Wine Collective with Golden Child and Brash Higgins, sharing a cellar door in Aldinga.
