Redman

Redman is one of Coonawarra's founding wine families, making premium reds from the region's famous terra rossa for four generations. In 1908 Bill Redman and his family bought 16 hectares of Coonawarra vineyard, selling that vintage's grapes to the Riddoch winery to help pay for it, and in 1909 he made his first wine in rudimentary conditions, selling it all in bulk.

Bill's son Owen joined him in 1937, and with the 1952 vintage the family released its first wine of its own, a Cabernet Shiraz blend under the Rouge Homme label. Bill's grandson Bruce, co-owner and winemaker, joined in 1982 with his brother Mal, and Bruce's sons Dan, winemaker and marketing manager since 2008, and Mike, assistant winemaker since 2016, are the fourth generation. In Redman Wines' 60th year the family once again became owners of the Rouge Homme brand.

The wines come from 20- to 100-year-old vines and follow Bill Redman's style: medium-bodied, flavoursome and able to cellar. The cellar door is on the Riddoch Highway in the centre of Coonawarra.
