Rowsley Fault Vineyard sits at Sutherlands Creek, about twenty minutes from Geelong, over the limestone of the Rowsley Fault line. It was set up to keep human intervention in the vineyard to a minimum, and the vines are not drip irrigated: their deep roots find water in the limestone and mineral-rich soils, so the wines are a product of the site and the season rather than an artificial water supply.
The vineyard grows a dozen Pinot Noir clones alongside other European varieties, earning it the description of an Australian home of Pinot Noir clones. Yields are low and the small-batch, dry-grown wines have concentrated, complex flavours and intense aromatics, in a powerful style suited to a European-leaning palate.
