Sapling Yard Wines

Sapling Yard Wines is a small, cool-climate producer in the Canberra District, with a cellar door in the village of Bungendore and its own vineyard at Charleys Forest near Braidwood. The wines are handcrafted in small batches from the home vineyard and from growers around Canberra and nearby regions, including Lake George, Murrumbateman, Tumbarumba and Hilltops.

The flagship, most-awarded wine is the Shiraz Viognier, co-fermented in the Canberra District tradition. The 'Forest' label celebrates blends, among them an aromatic white of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc that won gold and the trophy for best blended white at the 2025 NSW Wine Awards and the 2026 National Wine Show of Australia. The range also includes Pinot Noir, Riesling and Italian varieties such as Montepulciano.

The journey has not always been easy: the vineyard was planted during drought, and its Albariño vines had to be pulled out when they proved to be Savagnin.
