Seize the Day is a small Barossa Valley producer at Seppeltsfield on the Western Ridge. The 25-acre property was settled in 1852 by Christian and Louise Hemmerling from Prussia; when the owner and partner Sharyn bought it in 1993, the old Grenache vines were long gone, and in 1999 they planted 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz on the east-facing slope of Patterson Hill beside Greenock Creek, neighbouring Hentley Farm and Seppeltsfield.
The grapes went to a local winery until 2002, a year of an outstanding first harvest and a cancer diagnosis. During treatment, the owner resolved to seize the day and make wine, beginning with a rosé.
Since 2014 the focus has been the flagship Black Label Shiraz, made from estate fruit with a collaborating winemaker. The vineyard uses green manure crops and humates to build soil health. There is no cellar door, but personal vineyard tours and tastings are offered.
