Semprevino was founded in 2006 by three university friends who shared a passion for discovering and drinking great wine. The name joins two Italian words and loosely means 'always wine'. Since 2012 it has been owned by two of the founders, winemaker Russell Schroder and Victorian-based Simon Doak, with Russell's wife Alissa also closely involved.
Russell began as an engineer working in Australia and Asia, then completed a Bachelor of Wine Science at Charles Sturt University and worked vintages on the Mornington Peninsula, in the Alpine Valleys and in Barolo. He has been interviewed alongside Stephen Henschke and Adrian Sparks by American Wine Maker magazine.
The wines are true to their origins. The range includes McLaren Vale Shiraz, GSM, Pinot Grigio and old-vine Blewitt Springs Grenache, with Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo and Riesling when fruit is available.
