Seville Estate

Seville Estate was founded in 1972, when Dr Peter McMahon first pressed his shovel into the red volcanic soils of the Upper Yarra Valley to plant Shiraz. As the first winery in the Upper Yarra, it has become a leading light of cool-climate wine and a champion of the district, making varietally expressive wines from 100 percent estate-grown fruit.

The vineyard sits in an isolated, elevated corner of the valley with its own microclimate and ancient volcanic soils, and its vines span more than five decades. They are dry grown and steered through the season to maturity, and in the winery the approach is gentle and minimal, letting each release show the season and site with clarity, precision and natural acidity. Many of the wines suit both early drinking and long cellaring, some developing over decades; the Reserve Shiraz is a flagship.

Set about an hour east of Melbourne, Seville Estate has a cellar door in a native garden (currently paused while a new visitor experience is prepared) and accommodation in a homestead for up to eight and vineyard studios.
