Silkwood Estate

Silkwood Estate is a Pemberton winery established in 1998, set among the Karri and Jarrah forests for which the region is famous. As early as 1967 Professor Gladstone, a renowned wine authority, recommended Pemberton as Western Australia's most suitable wine region, although the first vineyard did not appear until 1982. Silkwood's site was chosen for the same qualities: a temperate climate, gently undulating land and rich gravelly loam over clay.

The Bowman family bought Silkwood in 2006 with the philosophy of making quality wine first and foremost, while creating an environment in which to enjoy it. That led to luxury accommodation on the estate, which, with the cellar door and restaurant, forms the Silkwood Experience. The small, passionate team has won wide acclaim and awards.

Winemaker Michael joined in 2018 after more than a decade of winemaking. He studied information systems at Melbourne University, discovered wine there, then studied viticulture and winemaking at La Trobe from 2003, making his first Shiraz in his garage in 2004. He has worked vintages in Turkey, New Zealand, France, Victoria and Western Australia, and earned five-star Halliday ratings for several WA wineries.
