Sittella is a family winery and restaurant in the Swan Valley near Perth, founded by Simon and Maaike Berns. Inspired by the food and wine they found travelling in France in the 1980s, the couple bought land in the Swan Valley in 1993 and planted a vineyard on weekends, starting with Verdelho, Chardonnay and Shiraz and later adding heat-loving varieties such as Petit Verdot and Tempranillo.
A winery followed in 1997, and the cellar door and restaurant opened in 1998, with Simon and Maaike waiting tables themselves in the early years. The family now also grows grapes in Margaret River and buys fruit from Frankland River, and Sittella has become well known for its traditional-method sparkling wines. Their son Yuri, who began as a trainee winemaker in 2004, became head winemaker in 2022.
Set against the Darling Range escarpment, the estate offers tastings, vineyard and winery tours, a modern Australian restaurant and a popular wedding venue.
