Skillogalee

Skillogalee is a family-owned winery in the Skilly Valley, in the Sevenhill sub-region of South Australia's Clare Valley, with single-estate vineyards first planted in 1970. At close to 500 metres above sea level, the vines were among the highest in South Australia at the time, planted along the contours of steep, east-facing slopes in shallow, stony dolomite soils.

The dry-grown, hand-tended vineyards are bordered by Spring Gully Conservation Park. Warm days and cool nights slow ripening and preserve acidity, giving wines of purity, structure and longevity. The property covers 170 hectares, with 55 under vine, and is best known for Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet blends that age well.

The historic 1850s stone cottage at the heart of the estate is being restored. In the meantime, the Barrel House hosts tastings and regional dining, and since 2004 Skillogalee has offered boutique accommodation in cottages among the vines.
