Solitude Estate is a family-owned vineyard on ridges and slopes at Yellingbo in the Upper Yarra Valley, on one of the last tracts of the original Solitude grazing run of the mid-1800s. It belongs to the Kerr family of Tibooburra, who bought land at Hoddles Creek in the late 1960s and built one of Australia's most successful Angus herds.
The first vines were planted in 1996, and in 2005 Victoria's first black truffles were found at the vineyard. The Solitude label launched in 2008, and its first Chardonnay won gold at the Yarra Valley Wine Show.
The vines sit among conservation reserves begun in the 1980s that protect the helmeted honeyeater and Leadbeater's possum. Carl's Hut, a luxury stay, opened in 2022.
