Tallagandra Hill is a family-owned winery in the foothills outside Gundaroo, 30 minutes north of Canberra. Its name means 'a place of many cows': the land was grazing country owned by the Sibley family until vines were planted in the 1990s.
David Faulks and Mary McAvoy took over in 2016, drawing on international careers in design, marketing and events to refresh the brand while keeping its heritage. The wines are made only from the estate's grapes, using sustainable practices such as no under-vine spraying, solar-powered irrigation and compost-based organic nutrition, and the business runs on solar power.
The non-traditional cellar door hosts weddings, functions and live music, and there is vineyard cottage accommodation.
