Tambo Wine is a vineyard in the Gippsland Lakes area of East Gippsland, Victoria. Its founder came from a Queensland farming background and developed a love of wine while travelling in Europe, becoming convinced that great wines could be made in Australia despite its variable climate.
After a career in town planning, the founder researched widely and visited vineyards in search of a site for 'new classic' wines, choosing a former dairy farm near the Gippsland Lakes for its moderate temperatures and cooling sea breezes.
The winemaking starts in the vineyard, aiming for concentration, complexity, balance, length and a sense of place. The grower and winemaker decide picking dates together.
