Thousand Candles is a historic 1,100-acre farm at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley, 65 km north-east of Melbourne, combining vineyards, cattle pastures and native bush.
The name comes from a nineteenth-century account of the land: a European settler witnessed a ceremony in which the area's Indigenous people granted free passage of the bush around the property.
Time on the property has taught the team its best patches of soil. The top wines come from the finest parcels of the best blocks, while the Gathering Field range shows the variety across the vineyard.
