Underground Winemakers

Underground Winemakers was formed by Peter Stebbing, Adrian Hennessy and Jonathon Stevens, who had each spent years immersed in progressive viticulture and winemaking on the Mornington Peninsula, as well as working overseas in regions such as Alsace.

Their first step was to lease a small winery at Mount Eliza that had closed years earlier but still had a vineyard with some of the oldest Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay plantings on the Peninsula. With no resources other than their experience and second-hand equipment, they set out to make honest, good-value wine.

The cellar door harks back to the old days, with Cellar Door Specials such as Pinot Grigio and Shiraz at great prices, available nowhere else. As they put it, the labels look terrible but the wine is terrific.
