Vickery Wines carries the legacy of John Vickery, one of Australia's great Riesling makers. John began making Riesling for Leo Buring in 1955, when Australia made mostly fortified wine, and recognised the potential of Watervale and Eden Valley to make dry Rieslings with a sense of place, purity and longevity.
He was at the forefront of cool fermentation using refrigeration and gentle handling with bag presses, and considered his involvement in the first screw cap initiative his most rewarding contribution. He was named Australia's Greatest Living Winemaker in a 2003 Epicure survey of his peers and awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2007; Jeffrey Grosset ranked him alongside Max Schubert.
Vickery Riesling is sold through fine wine retailers and restaurants in Australia and overseas.
