Vinya Vella is the label of Barossa viticulturist Dylan Grigg, named Viticulturist of the Year in the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion. Dylan grew up in the Barossa, where his family's roots go back to the mid-1800s, and his doctoral research focused on vine age.
In 2019, just back from living in Spain with his young family, he took on a small, old vineyard at Vine Vale, on the eastern edge of the valley below Eden Valley. Of its almost 6 hectares, 4 carry gnarled vines dating to the early 1900s, on deep aeolian sands over clay. One row of Shiraz was grafted to Palomino and Canocazo in 2023.
The mid-rows are flail-mown to hold the soil and recycle organic matter. A recent release scored 96 points from The Wine Front.
