Westmere Wines began in 1998 with a single planting of Cabernet Sauvignon on the family farm at the southern edge of the Bool Lagoon wetlands, 40 km west of Penola on South Australia's Limestone Coast.
The Cabernet is called Barb's Block in honour of Jack 'Barbs' Kay, who has put his heart into establishing and nurturing the vineyard. The family motto, 'never say when', comes from Erica's father Jim DeGaris.
The cellar door and gift shop are in the historic Local Images building on Penola's main street.
