White variety

Crouchen

A French white grape once known in Australia as Clare Riesling.

History

Crouchen comes from south-west France but is now almost extinct there. It was taken to South Africa, where it was known as Cape Riesling.

Crouchen in Australia

Crouchen was long grown in South Australia, where it was mistakenly called Clare Riesling until it was correctly identified. It is now rare.
